Authorities said officers were dispatched to the Crest Plaza parking lot on North Cedar Crest Boulevard around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov., 27 for a report of a suicidal man refusing to get out of his vehicle.

South Whitehall police called Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team (MERT) crisis negotiator, who eventually convinced the man to stand down, officials said. He was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation, they added.

One witness told WFMZ that police were on the scene for three hours and had their guns drawn during the ordeal.

"At no point was the public in any danger," police said.
